Happy Anniversary, to us. 🙂
(our song)

Let’s see… up at the crack of dawn to prepare for the day’s meetings. Back-to-back meetings from about 6AM to 10PM. Dropped the gallon of milk on the floor, which exploded all over the kitchen, while on a conference call. Heated meeting discussions. New technical problems with several projects underway. HR issues.
I need to find my happy place.
On a positive note 🙂 the mainsail is ready to be picked up. So, Monte headed there this afternoon to pick it up and rig it back on the boat. I would love to go help, but it’s not going to happen today, so I think Kurt is meeting him there to lend a hand. The picture above is one of the mainsail on Nirvana the first time we took her out, on the seatrial. The repairs were to replace the luff tape (the black tape that runs up the mast side of the sail). It should raise and lower much more easily now, as the last one was frayed and broken in places.
Here’s to a better day, tomorrow.

Yep. Another zinnia – hot pink. The zinnia patch still has some legs. Have great week!

I cast my fishing pole several times. But this is the closest i got to a bite today.

To celebrate the first day of Fall, we spent the night on the lake 🙂 Well, we’d do that any night, but it does happen to be the first day of Fall. There were no winds to speak of. Plus, our main is at Bartlett’s Sail Shop getting a new luff tape.
We set anchor in Arky south, where there are, apparently, several billion gnats that have just hatched. Most of which were trying to find a place to spend the night on our boat. It’s usually not buggy out on the lake. Must be because of the recent rains.

This is the last day of Summer 2012. I had a good Summer, I hope you did, too. My advice to you:
Summer’s Almost Gone
Summer’s almost gone (x 2)
Almost gone
Yeah, it’s almost gone
Where will we be
When the summer’s gone?
Morning found us calmly unaware
Noon burned gold into our hair
At night, we swam the Laughing sea
When summer’s gone
Where will we be (x 3)
Morning found us calmly unaware
Noon burned gold into our hair
At night, we swam the Laughing sea
When summer’s gone
Where will we be
Summer’s almost gone (x 2)
We had some good times
But they’re gone
The winter’s comin’ on
Summer’s almost gone

There are a hundred or so green pecans strewn about our backyard that the squirrels have raided, leaving the chaff. They sure are persistent little buggers.

Today is Talk-like-a-pirate Day! So in honor of the occasion, we went to dinner tonight at… Chuy’s! 🙂
We actually went at (ahem) 4PM, because we were both kind of hungry, my previous call had just ended and I had a break before my evening conference calls with colleagues in AP started at 6PM tonight. So, this was the only time we could dash out. Back in the day, when we lived in Florida, we used to make jokes about all the old folks grabbing an early dinner (you know…getting the “blue-hair special”). Well. Now we are them.
Anyway, I did order a mango mAARRRg to celebrate in pirate fashion. And a yummy #8 plate to go with it.
I also snapped a photo of their new lighting. I like the colored glass.

Better late than never, i always say. We only had one rain lily pop up in our yard, and it bloomed a day after all the others in the neighborhood. Another fringe benefit, though dainty and fleeting, of the recent rains.
I played around a bit with black and white to show off the bloom, but I left a spash of color in the middle.
…AND, Happy Birthday Mom!!! This pic is for you

After the rain the last few days, the lake is up over a foot, and rain lilies have popped throughout the neighborhood. I was a bit bummed that our yard has zero lilies, but my neighbors on all sides have a yard-full. Maybe mine are waiting another day or two…

One last post for tonight. We made 3 pizza doughs. A margerita, a proscuitto-mozzarella-blackolive and this delicious one with red pepper and goat cheese. Yum-mee. 2+ pizzas are in the fridge for leftovers this week.
Great weekend!

Yesterday we set out for the lake to raft up with Lori & Dave on Camelot. We put our repaired jib back on. And Julie met us at the slip. We were the only two boats on the lake, i think, given the continued forecast of rain.
We anchored up in Arky south last night, expecting some good downpours after midnight. Lori and Dave hosted us to a delicious spaghetti feast on their boat. Thanks guys!
We played iPod wars for a bit and turned in relatively early. The rain really didn’t start until about 8 AM. And it still hasn’t quit. No complaints here though. The lake is up a total of about 11 inches since Wednesday. Keep it comin!
We played rummy in the cabin for several hours and then headed back to the slip.
Now we’re back home and pizza dough is being whipped up as I type this.
Enjoy what’s left of the weekend!

I took this shot of the plumbago out back before the rain that’s in the forecast (yay!) gets here. It’s an amazing plant; can withstand pretty much any drought and heat. This one is sprawled over half of my flower bed. So pretty.
There’s another coldfront coming in from the north tonight. I can hear thunder already. I hope this one is a super-soaker. Today the marina was planning on moving our dock to the end of another dock, since the lake level continues to drop and it’s now too shallow where E-dock currently is.
C’mon rain!

The acorns are back.
Weighing down each red oak branch.
The squirrels rejoice.

Last year was a lean one for the furry critters that live off the acorns in our neighborhood. The red oak was just too stressed. This year the tree is absolutely loaded with them. I just wish the pecan tree out back would cooperate.
