From my mind’s eye.

I saw a white ceramic boot at a thrift store last week.  It gave me a flash of inspiration; a vision of what it could be.  It would become a colorful planter.  Yes.  That’s it.  I brought it home.

First, I drilled a drain hole in the bottom. Slowly and carefully with my Dremel tool.

Then I popped over to Michael’s craft supply store for paint. I have a lot of acrylic paints, but I wasn’t sure what kind would work on already glazed ceramic. After shopping a bit I found one that sounded like it might.

Craftsmart multi-surface paint pots; you let dry for 72 hours and then bake in the oven.

I also grabbed a pen to help outline the design.  I thought it would be easier than using a paint brush.

I chose a clear acrylic glaze spray-on finish to seal it from the elements.

I used rubbing alcohol to clean the surface first.   I sketched a design on paper to plan it out.  Next I drew it on the boot.  Pencil worked great on the shiny finish.  Then I let loose with color.  I was trying to mimic Mexican glazed pottery designs, though not with real kiln-fired glazes.  I was extra-pleased that it didn’t crack in the oven. After it cooled I sprayed on the glaze. Voila!

Now to get a lovely flowering plant.

Didn’t cry.

Doh!  I did this within 10 seconds of waking up this morning.  *sigh*

¡Vamos!

The World Cup matches begin today. We cut the cord a couple of years ago, but will not be denied live coverage. Thank you, over-the-air Telemundo HD TV channel!

The USMT didn’t qualify, so I am all in for España. They play tomorrow.

Happy place.

Monte, Keeto, and I headed for the lake today to beat the heat. Soooo nice.

Up, up and away.

As if I don’t have enough stuff in the backyard already, I went out today in search of a few more things. Planter, check. Bird bath, check. New whirligig thingie, check. 🙂

Laid back Sunday morning.

I joined Lori & Doray downtown yesterday for a morning pedicure, brunch, and a walk about downtown.   This is the new library downtown, we were going to go in, but it wasn’t open yet.  I guess we should have had one more round of mimosas to kill time.  🙂

Our local.

We were treated to a visit yesterday from our long-time pinochle buddies and newly moved-to-the-hills friends, Tom & Doray. We took the opportunity to pop over to our nearby bar hangout for dinner and cards.

The guys kicked the ladies’ butts. Next time…. 🙂

Good girl.

We are dog sitting for Julie, who is out of town. Blake is a beautiful dog, and a perfect houseguest and fur-buddy. I’m enjoying our daily walks. Now, if I could just teach her to talk….

Birding outing.

Doray and I visited Warbler Woods and Crescent Bend Nature Park today.  We saw many more species than I was able to capture on camera, but here are my only keepers.  I love the variety of migrant birds we get to see here.

Spoiled.

Julie came over today with a gorgeous bouquet of flowers, and whipped up a delicious brunch.

What a sweetie. 🙂

Messing about.

We took a boatload of people out on the lake yesterday. We enjoyed a nice long sail down the lake and back, then anchored for a couple hours. We even had a few floaters, though I’m waiting a couple more weeks for the lake to warm up a tad. The sun was out, wind was up. Another great day on the lake!

To the gulf.

We have been busy crossing off projects from our todo list for Lori’s boat. Today Lori, Joe, Monte, and I took the morning off and took our bikes to the sea wall at Galveston Island and rode up and down it.

This is a sculpture dedicated to the memory of the 6000+ souls lost in the 1900 hurricane. If you want to learn more about it, I recommend reading Isaac’s Storm by Erik Larsen.

One stretch of beach had dozens of hand built piles of rocks.

We made one, too!

We worked hard all afternoon, but had a wonderful day.

To the bay.

We’ve come to the coast to help Lori with some boat projects. After tackling a bunch of them, we popped over to the other side of the bay to watch the Wednesday night regatta.

A good day.

Zinnie season!

The first batch this year from the garden. So pretty!
