Ok. It’s a first for the blog — I am posting a picture for my moment from today that I took 2 days ago (not today). However, my story is that it does qualify as a moment from today because I took some time tonight to browse through my recently uploaded pictures and I spent a few moments tonight trying to adjust the lighting on this one. Didn’t work. But I have to say, even in bad light, it makes me smile.
It’s been a long week.

Friday the 13th. Last day of a long week.
We love these insulated Tervis tumblers. They’re fantastic, go-everywhere, (mostly) unbreakable beverage holders. I bought this one only a week or so ago, and it was my current favorite for coffee-to-go. But, symbolic of the kind of week this has been, this smiley face has has lost a little something.
Underneath the Pecan trees, out back, I came across this plant. I am not sure what this phenomena is called, but it’s turned white on one half of the leaves, divided down its axis.
Must be a sign.
Must achieve balance.
I’ll get right on that.
Last week I went in to Lenscrafters to order replacements for my Raybans that I lost on our last San Marcos tubing trip. They called today to say they were ready.
While I was at the Arboretum to pick them up, I took a walk around the nearby park. If you’ve been there you may recognize the stone cows. A favorite for kids of all sizes to climb up on.
They used to have Blues on the Green at this park every Wednesday night. It’s held down at Zilker Park now. I checked out the schedule for the rest of the summer (here’s a link)… there’s 3 more scheduled. I’m going to try to make one of them.
This sign made me chuckle as I drove past today. It’s located about a mile and a half outside of the IBM Somers campus. I turned around and drove past a second time, just so that I could snap this picture.
After this week of meetings here, I can report that the Circus is alive and well. 🙂
Today is the last day of the first half of 2010. How fast was that?!
I didn’t bring the camera with me this morning, so by the time I got back to the hotel room tonight there was little material to work with. I’m determined to keep this photo-a-day thing going, though, so I opted for a self-portrait-ish shot. Ok, just the eye — but it IS mine.
I learned the other day that my mom will be having cataract surgery. I was checking out my eye in the mirror for early signs of cataracts, but didn’t see anything, so I think I’m ok…..for a while, anyway. Whew!
Anyway, that’s what led to this shot.
Earlier this year we spent time preparing the planting bed along the fence in the backyard. We’ve planted zinnias, basil, morning glory, and transplanted a few other plants to the bed. This little specimen, however, was not planted by us, but I’ve let it grow from a little seedling into this big leafy bush. We’re not quite sure what it is yet. I’ve tried googling images on the web and think it’s a green pepper. It has some tiny white blooms on it, and I’ll wait to see what they turn into. Several years ago I did have green peppers planted in this bed, so it very well could be a volunteer.
When and if I get confirmation of what this mystery plant is, I’ll post an update.
A Toyota being pushed through the lobby of the Houston Omni Hotel. Today is the Friday before the MS-150 bike ride weekend, which is a 2 day bike ride from Houston to Austin, raising money for fighting Multiple Sclerosis. For the last 8 years or so I’ve been driving my cycling friends to the event in Houston, helping them with their gear and driving their truck back to Austin the next day. I call it being a “sherpa.” It’s alot of fun with my girlfriends, and a great deal – as they treat me to a wonderful dinner.
This year Lori and Laura are riding, and Irene has joined again for co-sherpa duties. We were walking back to the hotel room late at night and saw them pushing this Toyota official MS-150 support vans through the lobby. I guess they didn’t want to start the engine. It was amusing though because the guy in the drivers seat kept putting on the brakes.
Anyway. I could have taken lots of pictures of bikes, but this moment caught my fancy.
We made it to our neighborhood margarita hole for dinner tonight — timed to miss the after-work rush. This is a shot of Chuy’s hubcap ceiling. I love me some mango margs.
Woo hoo! Today is the first day of Spring! The equinox occurred at 12:32PM today. You wouldn’t know it, though, because a cold front blew in early this morning with thunderstorms, dropping temperatures to the 40’s and 50’s today, and into the 30’s tonight! Crazy Central Texas weather. You’d think we’d be used to it by now, but I am REALLY ready for Spring.
This afternoon we bundled up and took a brisk walk through the neighborhood. This house is a couple of blocks from ours. They dress this gargoyle up for holidays — Santa at Christmas, a ghost at Halloween, beads during Mardi Gras, …
I love our neighborhood. It is very rustic, but right in the middle of things.
I’m happy that we are here and the work on the house is finally done.
And I want a gargoyle in front of my house, too.

The wreck of the HMS Rhone, off Salt Island, BVI. The stern lies in about 20′ of water and the rest of the wreck in deeper water. As we were snorkling, this was about all I could get to. Pretty cool, though. My very first underwater wreck sighting.
