Up, up and away.

As if I don’t have enough stuff in the backyard already, I went out today in search of a few more things. Planter, check. Bird bath, check. New whirligig thingie, check. 🙂

Our local.

We were treated to a visit yesterday from our long-time pinochle buddies and newly moved-to-the-hills friends, Tom & Doray. We took the opportunity to pop over to our nearby bar hangout for dinner and cards.

The guys kicked the ladies’ butts. Next time…. 🙂

Homeward.

I spent last night in a very funky hotel in the South Terminal of Gatwick airport. It’s called bloc hotel and they market their rooms as “yacht-style;” think tiny, as in a cabin on a cruise ship. But it was modern, comfy, cheap and EASY, which makes it worthwhile for me. The airline check-in counter was literally 2 minutes away from my room.

This is the smallest room, they have bigger ones for more $$.

I’m looking forward to getting home. But I sure had a great week!

For Pilar.

My friend, Pilar, called today with some editorial direction for sheila365 — more armadillo content (or aardvark, whichever). 🙂

Ok. I’m on it.

That’s the trap right now; next to the hole under the fence that used to be on the armadillo super highway. Unfortunately, we have not caught a dillo since last summer/fall.

We’ll keep trying. We may need to move the trap, because we are seeing evidence of armadillo activity in the yard.

I can, however, report that there are 3 or 4 cats that feel entitled to frequent and freely roam our lot every day, which would be ok if they were not STALKING MY BIRDS, which is infuriating.

Back in the hood.

I joined five of my girlfriends yesterday at the Infinite Monkey Theorem winery & taproom to catch each other up on what’s been going on the first two months of this year. It was, after all National Drink Wine Day! Like we need a reason. 🙂

Errr…

My latest package delivery from Amazon, via UPS Ground; as found on my porch.   I wonder if they thought I’d notice?  Incredibly, the contents were unharmed and complete.

Some Christmas Eve eve lights.

After dinner last night we cruised by some Austin neighborhoods that light it up during the holidays…37th street, Clarksville, and a few in between.

Enjoy a bit of Austin weirdness:

An homage to a scene from the movie Stranger Things:

Now, THIS is weird:

Just a mess-o-lights:

Not weird:

Merry Christmas!

Rudolph.

We are ready!

Changing a flat.

On my way home from Palm Springs.  Made it as far as DFW.  Forty-five minutes late now.   But this might take a while.

I’m no expert, but…..

We are back home in Austin.  A lovely place to be.  For the last 2 days, though, the power has been out at the house.

I took a look at the power pole today.  And…… I see that the transformer is not hooked up to the transmission line.   At all.

I’m no expert, but I’m gonna say that maybe that is the problem, and a hopefully quick fix.

Yes, we CAN!

I helped my friend, Lori, unpack boxes from her recent move to a new home in South Austin yesterday.  The first thing we unpacked were the wine glasses, because she greeted me with a can of wine, one of her latest finds, a lovely rosé made by The Infinite Monkey Theorem, an urban winery that’s located just down the street from her new place.  Kinda fun and not bad!  I can see this on the boat in my future.  🙂

Peep show.

This may be the worst quality photo I have posted to date.  But, it’s capturing the moment that counts, right? 🙂

These are a few of the birdies that were running around on the skylights over our back room yesterday afternoon.

A mess o’martins.

I checked out a Purple Martin Party tonight – a spectator event coordinated by the Travis Audubon Society.   Every Friday and Saturday night in July, from 8-9:30pm, people gather on the lawn outside the Texas Land & Cattle restaurant to watch tens of thousands of purple martins roost at sunset.  These guys are done nesting and breeding and are on their way south to complete the annual migration cycle of life.  They tell me that by the end of the month there may be hundreds of thousands of them.

How can one possibly photograph this event?  Here is one shot I took, a small portion of the overall scene.  Can you count them?

Magic mug.

My sweet sister-in-law, Susanne, gave me this wonderful coffee mug at the reunion last week.  I love it!  It makes me smile every morning.
