Big bloomers.

Tonight I went over to Laura’s for a girls’ night in: wine, pizza & a movie (The Help). She had this large bunch of lilies in a vase on the counter. The blooms were enormous – as big as your head. Very pretty. And very fragrant.

Late bloomers.

These 2 guys showed up as part of a late set in the zinnie patch. They missed the memo about summer being over.

I’m baaaack.

Wow, I’ve left Sheila365 untended for 3 weeks!  That’s the longest stretch without posting since I started this blog over 3 years ago.  But it’s not because I don’t have new photos.  Oh my, do I have photos!  We spent 2 jam-packed weeks in Seattle visiting family.  I worked the first week, but I was on vacation for the second week.  We celebrated birthdays, had great visits with my mom, all my siblings and their kids, and Monte’s nephew and his awesome family.  Watched kids soccer games, watched football games (go seahawks!), went golfing, went to the Port Townsend wooden boat show, spent a glorious day on the Seattle waterfront.  We’ve been back home for a week, but it was way too busy with work to attack the photos.  I just need to sit down and sort through them, to a pick a few to share.  But that’s not going to happen today, so let me just post this one, to get back into the blogging groove.  Happy Anniversary to us!  We’ve completed another ride together around the sun, with lots of great memories — looking forward to what we encounter on the next lap.

My neighborhood rocks.

Happy July 4th! Monte and I are packing for two days and nights on the lake. It’s going to be great! As we were getting ready I heard the Stars and Stripes blaring down the street. We went outside and caught our neighborhood’s annual parade. I love it. Small town awesomeness in the middle of Austin! They do this every year, but this is the first year we have been home on the 4th to see it (!).

20130706-011347.jpgwhy yes, that IS a mop&linen Statue of Liberty going down the street. Don’t you have one of those?

Just a few of the fun characters gathered this weekend for our bi-annual family reunion. Fun!

San Diego – Day 3.

We had a blast last night.  Today we set out for Balboa Park in the morning, and Coronado in the afternoon.

One of my favorite places in Balboa Park is the botanical gardens:

And its lily pond:

We strolled over to the rose garden:

A great morning spent amongst the beautiful San Diego architecture:

And over to Coronado for lunch at the Sheerwater @ the Hotel del Coronado:

Then we went to a nearby art street fair, and grabbed a late dinner at the bar in the hotel.

A LOVELY day, indeed!

First zinnies.

Monte’s zinnias are starting to bloom. These are the first ones we’ve brought inside to enjoy.

Pop.

This morning these lilies from Mother’s Day were still closed buds. Tonight, voila! Very pretty.

Lilac.

My dad planted lilacs in the yard many years ago. They multiply like crazy in these parts.

Fuchsia.

I spent a great Mother’s Day with my mom and 3 sisters and many of my niece/nephews. We also took a trip to Tacoma to visit my brother’s family who just welcomed his first grandkid into the world. A nice day indeed. The array of colorful flowers that explode here every spring is staggering. This is a beautiful place year round, but especially this time of the year. This is one shot from my mom’s backyard.

Jasmine!

We have a fence along the south side of our lot that has several flowering vines covering it. Some Carolina Jessamine. Some orange trumpet vine. And some jasmine. The winds have turned back out of the south again, where they should be. So our backyard is engulfed in the entrancing fragrance of jasmine. I love spring!
