5K!

I am woefully out of shape and would like to figure out how I can permanently make time in my schedule for exercise.

I saw this post last week about the Worldwide WordPress 5K – a virtual 5K being “hosted” by Automattic — encouraging bloggers to do a 5K (run, walk, jog, whatever) between April 4 and April 10.   I got mine in this afternoon on the treadmill…  after running errands, grocery shopping, paying bills and doing some yardwork.  YAY!!

I’ve been a blogger on WordPress now for about 13 months.  I recently completed my 365 photo challenge and am still finding real pleasure in toting my camera around looking for a photo of a moment to share on my blog each day.    Thanks to WordPress and their wwwp5K  for getting me moving.   Maybe my blog will expand into an exercise blog now??   🙂

Not a sports photographer.

I got to catch an indoor soccer match that my niece and nephew were playing in today.  Soccer is quite popular in these parts and they start them young – this is a league for 6-8 year old girls and boys.   My niece is playing goalie here, and my nephew is getting ready to kick the ball.

I was not able to get a non-blurry shot with my little point and shoot camera.  So, this is a frame from a video I shot instead.

All-Americans.

This weekend I made my first trip to College Station to watch my first ever track meet.   I’m so glad I did, it was a blast.  Jeremy made the podium in 8th place in the heptathlon – an All-American in the strongest field of heptathletes that have competed together in a long time, maybe ever – according to my informed track parent friends 🙂

Irene and Joseph stayed with us again tonight and we had our own little party to celebrate and catch up.

Happy 1st blogoversary!

Today is the 1 year anniversary of my starting this blog.   To mark the occasion, I made a collage using all 365 of the moments that I’ve posted here.

I can recall taking each one.   🙂

I started this in early March last year, in time to capture the signs of Spring, and into the Summer as things began to warm up and as we spend so much time on the lake… then through the changes in Fall and Winter when we spend more of our time on projects and playing with friends on land.  I’ve come full circle, and am looking forward all the moments from the coming year.

Happy Mardi Gras!   and  HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Lori and to Mary!

Day #365!!!

Today’s post makes the 365th moment that I have shared with you.  This is a shot of one of the geraniums I planted yesterday that I took today during a break between conference calls.

I’m very pleased that I have stuck with this post-a-photo-per-day-for-a-year project.  There were some days that I found it difficult to see something worth sharing.   But I have to say that most days I looked forward to toting my camera around with me, and was usually pleased to find a moment that was either a photo that I liked or at least made for a nice story to share.

Wow, a year.   365 moments.   It goes by fast.

I look forward to keeping my blog going.  I don’t know that I will be posting something every day, but I am definitely looking forward to posting more moments worth sharing.

A colleague of mine passed away over the weekend after a fight with cancer.  He was only 51.

I can only hope that you all have many more years left on this earth to share with your friends and family.   But since we never know when our time will be up, we have to take the time to enjoy and be thankful for each and every day that we get to spend with them.   I have done that for a year.   And I hope to from here on out…

Mario Karts mania.

Santa brought me a new Mario Karts wii game.  I’ve been tearin’ it up!  🙂

Got this lovely wii-snapshot in my wii-inbox for reaching a new level.   That’s my wii-head on Luigi’s body — my favorite karts avatar.

Wanna race?

Friiday niight

We played a little wii bowling tonight.  This is my wii mii…a self-portrait of sorts.   Monte is kicking my butt, throwing strikes at will.

100

Friday night.   Must be dart night.   While Monte was warming up at home I took some photos of the board.  This sequence of three throws ended up being double-bull, bull, bull.   Those of you that have played darts with Monte will believe me that this was not staged.  🙂

I decided to feature this as my moment-of-the-day.

I used Picasa to create the collage.   Pretty nifty.

Viva la roja!!!

The World Cup is underway in South Africa for the last several weeks.   Spain made it to the semi-finals and played Germany today and WON!!!!   1-0    Great game!

I can only imagine the celebrations going on in Madrid today.   This is a live shot of Madrid from right after the final whistle blew and Spain advanced to the Final game for the first time in World Cup history.

During the years I lived in Madrid in high school Spain hosted the World Cup – El Mundial 1982.   That was an exciting summer, and a thrill even though Spain didn’t make it past the second round that year.

I’m looking forward to watching the Final on Sunday.

Viva la roja!!!!!!   Viva España!!!  Vamos a ser campeones del mundo!!!

She-pole

It’s time to renew my fishing license.   I decided it was high time for a new fishing pole as well.   The pole I’ve been using for years on the boat doesn’t cast well — it’ll go about 15 feet, no matter what.

I picked a ladies ugly stick.  It’s short; and it’s pink.  That ought to keep the menfolk away from it.

I took it out to the lake and tried it out.   It casts GREAT!   Very nice.   I caught a bunch of blue gill on white bread balls.

Now, where are those bass?….

T-shirt night

Friday!!  Monte went to a hockey game tonight and brought me a t-shirt that he caught from the t-shirt cannon.   I went to dinner with Jen and caught up.   Looking forward to a nice weekend at home.
