The morning glory I planted from seed just 6 weeks ago has already climbed up the metal obelisque and is full of blooms. The flowers are amazing when they are open, but I think are also quite pretty when they are rolled up waiting for the next morning.
For those that have been following the boat refurbishing project… Monte has been working diligently on it and it looks beautiful. All the mahogony trim and brightwork was sanded down to bare wood and has its many coats of varnish. The decks have been sanded and repainted with gritty bits for traction. He’s added fishing pole holders (YEAH!), some bronze bits, fixed the swim ladder mount, sanded and painted the cockpit floor (we know that get’s a lot of abuse), repainted the toe rails, etc etc.
The big thing we have to do before launching is to put on new bottom paint. We’ll work on the mast and spars after it’s back in the water. That way, we can at least play, even if we can’t sail yet.
This is a shot looking aft taken through the eye on the bowstrap where the mainstay attaches (when it is there).
My favorite not-homemade-pizza is the Tuscan from Brick Oven. It has a mushroom pesto sauce, some small pieces of prosciutto, a little bit of mozzarella and asiago cheese sprinkled on it. After it comes out of the oven, it is topped with a pile of arugula leaves and drizzled with truffle oil (my mouth is watering just typing that).
I want to make this pizza. So… we planted some arugula in the garden a few weeks back. It’s taking hold and has sprouted a bunch of these little tiny arugula blossoms. They are edible as well.
When the time comes to make our own version of the Tuscan pizza, i will definitely post a pic 🙂
When I was in Seattle last week, several of my sisters were planting their fuschia hanging baskets. I love fuschias and have never found them down here in Texas. I have always assumed that the Central Texas climate was too unfriendly to fuschias.
I went to Home Depot this weekend to pick up a few things, and what did I spy on the racks of hanging baskets? One, lone, fuschia plant. The guy from the nursery was there stocking the shelves and said it should do ok if I keep it out of the really strong sun and shelter it later in the summer.
I scooped it up and brought it home. It now is hanging outside my back room so that I can keep an eye on it every day. So pretty!
I am woefully out of shape and would like to figure out how I can permanently make time in my schedule for exercise.
I saw this post last week about the Worldwide WordPress 5K – a virtual 5K being “hosted” by Automattic — encouraging bloggers to do a 5K (run, walk, jog, whatever) between April 4 and April 10. I got mine in this afternoon on the treadmill… after running errands, grocery shopping, paying bills and doing some yardwork. YAY!!
I’ve been a blogger on WordPress now for about 13 months. I recently completed my 365 photo challenge and am still finding real pleasure in toting my camera around looking for a photo of a moment to share on my blog each day. Thanks to WordPress and their wwwp5K for getting me moving. Maybe my blog will expand into an exercise blog now?? 🙂
I flew back to Austin today. I had a great visit and will probably plan on coming up again for another working-visit in about a month or so.
It’s really nice to be home, though. With my sweetie and amongst my flowers 🙂
This is a shot of an evening primrose in the way back from tonight, as the sun was started to drop low.
Last night we finally got around to watching the movie “Inception.” Wow – what a mind-bender. I think I only need to watch it 5 or 6 more times tobe able to follow the story line.
Oh, and on my flight home today I watched the rest of the movie “Hereafter” that I caught part of on the flight out to Seattle 2 weeks ago. Good movie.
Wow! what a blast from the past. I went down to the corner gas-mart to pick up some milk for my coffee this morning and something down on the candy counter caught my eye…. Zotz candy!
This was my favorite candy treat when I was a kid. I think the last time I had one was about 30+ years ago (yikes!). I didn’t think they made them anymore. They are a flavored hard candy…. inside is some powder that fizzes and bubbles up out either end of the candy as it gets wet.
I just couldn’t resist and had to buy a couple.
After I tried one, I had had about enough, but it did send me back for a second there. 🙂
This is the view from outside my mom’s front door. These peaks are the Olympic Mountain range. When we moved here in 1974 the trees were MUCH shorter and the view was unobstructed.
Though the trees and branches screen the view, it still makes me pause and stare each time I walk outside on a clear day. Snowcapped mountains as far as you can see.
