Sell or hold?

Today IBM announces 3rd quarter earnings after hours.   The stock has been building up all year to its current price of almost $143/share.   This is a picture of a chart showing performance over last 30 years.  That’s as far back as eTrade goes.  Current price is all-time high.

Hmmmm.   I wish my crystal ball wasn’t broken.

Angels among us

I’ve ended up with quite a few of these Willow Tree angels – many were gifts from friends and family.   These are the angels of:   hope, the heart, warmth and love (left to right).

Even if you don’t believe that there are angels among us, these little figurines are reminders in a crazy world of the goodness that surrounds us.

Splash of color

We spent a wonderful day on the lake today.   For the beercan regatta I crewed for Lori on Camelot.   It was her first race and my first time working the rigging by myself.  I had a blast.

At sunset the wind pretty much died altogether, and all 4 boats inched their way to the finish line.   That freed me up to get the camera and take a few shots.  This tree stood out against the brown/green/gray background, especially in the light of the setting sun.

Sunset sail

With year round sailing possible in this part of the country, it’s always hard to pick the right time to take the boat out of the water.  We’ve picked this time of year since it’s not too cold and not too hot to be working on it in the shop.

We have lots of sanding, varnishing, painting and patching planned.

Tonight we folded up the sail.   This weekend we’ll bring home the spars.  And probably next week unstep the mast.   Then maybe trailer it and bring it home next weekend or the following.

For now, i’m just very glad it is Friday.

Have a great weekend!

Quarter moon

It’s going to be chilly tonight.  Weather guy says possibly into the 40s.   Yikes.  It’s time to find the comforter.

I stepped outside this evening and saw a very bright, quarter moon lighting things up above the live oaks.  This moon will become the Full Hunter moon on the 23rd.

Change you can believe in

Today I took my change jar to the bank to cash it in.     $131….. woo hooo!

Still life

Tomato Tuesday.   It was a slow day.  Work and such.

Tonight is the last night in Austin for our friend, Devin.  We met him downtown for dinner.   Tomorrow he’s off for Cincinnati.

The crack cocaine of Wii gaming

Our friends Marty and Sue were sweet to let us borrow their Wii Resort game.   They showed us the Island Flyover game in which you fly a plane over an island resort to find shooting targets and pop balloons.

I’ve said before that the Wii game is our speed of computer gaming.   This airplane game is a fun one, but can also lead to sleep deprivation.   It’s just a little addictive 😉

10/10/10

Cincy brew

Sunday – the close of another beautiful weekend.   I had to work today, but enjoyed some homemade pizza tonight.

These are tiny beers from Cincinnati called Little Kings.   I had my first one ever today.   Not bad.

Today is 10/10/10.   For those of you that are fans of the Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, 101010 is 42 in binary.   And 42 is, of course, the Answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything.

Cheers!

Wing on wing

On Saturday afternoons we race in a informal regatta with friends — aka the Beer Can regatta.   This is a shot of the field today.   Left to right – Dancer, Caribbean Hug and Spike (and far right is another b-docker, Dave,  that wasn’t racing, can’t remember his boat’s name at the moment).

Oh, why are we in the front, you ask?   Well, each boat has a different start time, slowest boats first, fastest boats last.    We didn’t stay in front.   The finish order was Caribbean Hug, Spike, Dancer and Cupholder.

A nice day on the lake.  Devin, the son of a good friend of Monte’s was visiting from Cincinnati, and joined us for the sail.

Caught my eye

This light fixture caught my eye — Art Deco-y.  It is about 4 feet tall, in a stairwell at Sax 5th Avenue in the Arboretum.

Bye bye birdie

It seems that as Fall has arrived and the sun sinks lower in the sky, the little birdies have flown to other climes.  My fleet of hummingbird feeders have fallen ominously silent.

Bountiful harvest

We have lots of large oak trees in the front and back of our yard.  We’re used to them dropping acorns in the Fall.   This year, however, there seems to be about 100x the number of acorns falling.   I guess it’s due to all the rain we’ve had.  For the last few weeks we’ve been listening to them hit the roof and roll down onto the patio, table and chairs out back.  They make a loud pop when they hit the roof or the skylights.   In the 4 years we’ve lived in this house, I don’t recall there being this many, making such a racket.   You can hear one hit the roof from across the house.  They hit pretty hard!  I’m starting to wonder if our homeowner’s hail-damage policy will cover the damage these little babies are making.  🙂

It’s going to be a big year for the squirrels.
