We spent the afternoon cutting and bundling up dead branches from several trees in the yard. Hard work on a hot day. This dragonfly kept landing on this same little twig on one of the cut branches. The detail on his wings reminds me of a Frank Lloyd Wright window/glass design.
Though another scorcher in Austin today, being out on the lake made it enjoyable.
The restaurant at the marina had its grand opening today, and we did our part to check our the menu and drinks.
Our 12 year old great-niece Amanda lost her fight tonight against aplastic anaemia and the side effects of 2 marrow transplants. Praying for peace and blessings to her parents, grandparents, sister and brother.
Even though it sits right next to the chair in my office, it’s been a long time since I’ve picked up and played my guitar. I took a few minutes today to tune it, and play a few songs.
Today is my Dad’s birthday. He would have turned 80 today. Well, actually, August 10th is the day we thought was his birthday for the first 70 or so years of his life. Some discovery of paperwork a few years back indicated his birthday was really August 4th. But having been born in a rural Ireland county back in the day, there might have been a delay in his birth actually being recorded.
ANYway. This is the day I still think of as his birthday. And so, whereever you are Dad, slainte!
P.s. I played Danny Boy for you. Hope you enjoyed it.
We enjoyed another great morning on the lake. Seven boats in this raftup – Tippy, Cupholder, Prelude, Caribbean Hug, Dancer, Cool Breeze, and Y No Hago Mas Na. 12 big kids, 11 young kids and 2 dogs.
We are rafting up tonight with friends in one of the Arkansas Bend coves. We always see these little dragonflies about. This one let me get pretty close.
We had a ladies’ sale on Camelot today. Then I joined the B-dockers for a while after returning to dock. It finally hit 100 degrees today – for the first time this year.
I kind of fell down on photo duties today, I didn’t take any while I was out and about. So, on the way home from the lake, when I saw this beautiful sunset in my rear view mirror I just had to snap a pic. Since I was driving with the top down I could do it without stopping. Even with the truck behind me, it’s a pretty sight.
I love Saturday mornings. 8 hours of sleep last night was a welcome bonus. The windows on the east side of the house cast lots of early morning light across the floor and walls — they glow with shadows from the trees out front.
Long day. I walked around out back, after the rain had stopped coming down. We’re having a very different kind of summer than last year. It’s the end of July, it hasn’t hit 100 yet, and the rain has been frequent enough to not have to water the lawn much. Nice.
I took this shot of some of the Penta blooms in the garden. I didn’t notice the little spider until I uploaded them to view.
Friday night. Must be dart night. While Monte was warming up at home I took some photos of the board. This sequence of three throws ended up being double-bull, bull, bull. Those of you that have played darts with Monte will believe me that this was not staged. 🙂
I decided to feature this as my moment-of-the-day.
I used Picasa to create the collage. Pretty nifty.
I have been working on my stealth technique for stalking hummingbirds. I bought a mini-tripod. I’ve even read the manual. I learned about fixing the auto focus. I learned how to reduce degradation of the image when I go past the 3x optical zoom max. This is the best shot I’ve gotten so far. I’d like to learn how to modify the contrast when taking the picture. The oak tree behind the feeder and the light at this time of day makes it difficult to have the image in the foreground pop. But I’m pleased with the result so far. I guess I can give the little birdies a rest, for now.
I weeded the flower bed yesterday, and it’s much easier to see the new buds and foliage. This is bud #2 from the purple coneflower. I don’t know what it is about closeups that captures my interest. This one was too hard to pass by.
