Snow on the runway at DFW! Today we left for a 10 day vacation in the British Virgin Islands. It snowed the night before, and many flights were cancelled at DFW, but luckily our flights left later in the day and we cruised through with no delays.

New record for Monte in Wii bowling! How long will it stand?
Susanne gave us a lovely basket of amaryllis bulbs over Christmas. Just 4 weeks later they have shot up and are almost ready to bloom. I like how one of the shoots is weaving its own way through life…marching to its own drummer. Reminds me of someone. Lovely. Thanks Susanne!
A very sad day, indeed. Who knew that a little blue bird, weighing about 1.5 ounces would touch our hearts the way Petey has over the last 9 years. Today was his last day with us. The tumor in his abdomen has swollen up to be the size of a ping pong ball. His quality of life has deteriorated to a point where he can’t move around his cage. He’s visibly in pain. Monte took him outside to give him one last chance to fly free, and he did (!) — to the neighbor’s yard. He was completely exhausted. The vet peacefully put him asleep forever and we took him home and buried him in a cedar box in the woods in our backyard. We miss you Petey.
Our attempt at breaking the record for most-people-in-the-shower-at-a-party. Unofficial count was 15. Next time we’ll have to do it earlier in the evening before people start to leave.

In early December Petey (our 9 year old parakeet) woke up with a lame leg. We took him to the vet and she quickly determined that he had a tumor in his abdomen, which caused the lameness. Prognosis — not good, wait and watch. Medicine helped alleviate the lameness, but the tumor continued to grow. At this point he really can’t walk well anymore and we modified his cage because he kept trying to climb up to the highest point. He’s got all his favorite things nearby… food, his mirror, his sleeping bag, little buddy, his bells (he loves his bells). Pretty bird.
We went to the lake today so that we could take photos of Lori & Dave on 3-Sheets underway from our boat for the boat-for-sale listing. It was cold, not much wind at all. Beautiful cloud formation overhead
Future furniture project. Everytime we go to the Chili’s @ 183 and Burnet we stop to study this bench. This day, we went to Ikea to get chairs for the island in the kitchen, and treated ourselves to lunch at Chili’s on the way home.
