My weapon of choice

Monte gave me this camera at Christmas.   I’ve been using it for the last month or two and love it.  It’s waterproof to about 30′.   It takes great pictures above and below sea level.  I’m still learning about all the features it has.

Today I decided to create a photo blog – posting one photo that captures a moment from each day in my life – for a year.   It’s a tall order, but if i can stick with it, it will be really great to look back on.  I wish I had gotten the inspiration to start this photo blog back on Jan 1, 2010.   But I didn’t get started until today.   In the wee hours of this morning, I’ve gone back and filled in with whatever photos from moments I have taken already between now and the beginning of the year.   And going forward I will try to post one moment from each day.   Some will be ho-hum, some will hopefully be wonderful.  I can’t wait to see what unfolds.

Damage to Echelon building

The damaged Echelon building off of Hwy 183 in the Arboretum — some a-hole crashed a plane into it a week or  two back aiming at the IRS office.  Tragically, he hit his mark and killed one man that worked there.   Thankfully all the others in the building made it out ok — it could have been much worse.    The camera was running out of battery, so this was the only shot I was able to take before it conked out.   It’s a bit obstructed in this shot, but the big hole where the plane hit is at the bottom of the building just to the right of the post of the highway sign.   Very sad.

March sail

Our first self-portrait with the new camera.   Out for a chilly Saturday sail on Lake Travis.   This photo was taken on our way back from Arkansas Bend.   The lake is nearly full again (678′).  Now we just need warm weather.  When we got back to the marina we saw Teri and Jim, who were spending their first weekend on Island Time at their new slip on E-Dock.   Yay, more people to play with!

Austin snow

The day after we came back from the BVI, it snowed in Austin.   Big fluffy flakes.  We got a couple inches.

Beef Island Airport on Tortola

One of the huge fans on the ceiling at the airport leaving Tortola.  The blades on these things must be 15′ in diameter.

Hummingbird
Wow, pretty

I wish this was not so blurry, but I took it rather quickly.    My first picture of a hummingbird at a flower….taken in the courtyard of the Tamarind hotel on Tortola, BVI.

Can you see the flounder in the middle of the photo?  How cool is that?!  Taken while snorkeling at the Caves off Norman Island, BVI.

Wreck of the Rhone
Love the underwater camera!

The wreck of the HMS Rhone, off Salt Island, BVI.   The stern lies in about 20′ of water and the rest of the wreck in deeper water.   As we were snorkling, this was about all I could get to.   Pretty cool, though.   My very first underwater wreck sighting.
