Passing through

I baked 2 pies and yeast rolls, and sides for the feast.  Monte was on turkey duty.

At exactly 1:09PM I stepped outside to cut some fresh rosemary to put inside the turkey before we put it on the grill.   It was completely still, and 77 degrees.   While I was out there the wind began to blow out of the north – the much talked about cold front had just arrived.  By 1:30 the temperature had dropped into the 50’s.     We knew it was coming but it’s still amazing to experience it.

As I was standing in front of the kitchen window, this buck deer trotted by.   We usually see lots of deer in the winter, but I haven’t seen one in a while.

Well, one year ago today my dad passed away.   I can’t believe how quickly a year has gone by.    Rest in peace, dad.

I’m thankful for so many things.   Friends.   Family.   Good fortune.

I hope your day was as nice as mine.

Happy Thanksgiving!

  1. The buck, the berries. Sheila, I love this picture!

I thought I would hate having to share Mother’s Day with the anniversary of my Dad’s passing but it turns out, it will always be a day that I get to spend extra time with my husband and that is exactly what I need each and every year. I know the actual anniversary of his passing doesn’t always fall on Mother’s Day but that is when I choose to mourn every year, and it is the day I choose to celebrate his life.

I am so sorry for your loss.

I typically wouldn’t post something like this on an open blog, but I think you already know I believe in God and well, anniversaries of my parent’s passing have been so difficult for me in the past that I LOVE when God sends me something to console me or comfort me on those two anniversaries. As much as I saw that you loved catching a glimpse of the deer on Lake Travis while we were underway, coming back from your Birthday Raft Up . . . I’m just saying . . . ahem – that’s a pretty cool deer you got a picture of yesterday!

What a huge week you are having – lots o’ love and warm thoughts headed your way!
